I am among the first wave of 76 million baby boomers in North America to reach our 70s. Over the next decade, this “class” of 70-somethings will swell by 50 percent, making us the fastest-growing segment of the population. Women my age want information and products that will turbo-charge the quality of our lives, keeping us fabulous, fit, flexible, and fun-loving – both mentally and physically – forever. This group will make growing older the ‘in’ thing.

My real career

So, this website is for all the fun stuff I’ve been doing for my whole life, but I did have a real career too. I was in the communication department at the Urban Transit Authority and then BC Transit for 17 years, starting in 1979. I was the manager of the communications department for the last few years I was there, working with a terrific team. I was lucky to be at Transit during a most exciting time – when SkyTrain was just an idea and the map for the route was drawn on a napkin, through the construction phase and then when SkyTrain opened to the public for Expo 86.  I was with Transit until the provincial government changed in the mid 90s.

I did some contract work with The Trial Lawyers Association on the no-fault campaigns and then I was the director of communications at the Architectural Institute of BC until I retired in 2000. I can remember saying, when I was working at transit, that even if I won the lottery I would continue working at my job because it was interesting and different and I had made some very good friends there. And working with the architects was a great experience too because they are bright, full of dreams and ideas and no problem seems insurmountable to them.

On the communication team introducing the very first SkyTrain.
